When a Format Doesn’t Land

Some strategies are useful to study not because they work, but because they don’t.

Thirdspace, launched at the start of 2025, positions itself as a way to meet people offline.

They posted a few videos in January, then went totally quiet from May through December.

The creators behind the app are university students, and the content reflects that.

Most posts are either direct promotions of the app…

  • "what if there's no one to go with?" → 4.8K views

…or compilations of academic‑life photos, as seen on @thirdspace.so:

  • "casual reminder you only get 4 years of this" → 2.4K views

But as the table shows, none of these posts are generating meaningful traction.

A change in approach could help, especially by leaning into formats that already work in this niche.

As we saw with Mate - Curated Social Circle, the turning point came from a three‑slide structure.

  • A selfie with a question that hits a shared pain point
  • Another selfie showing she's in the same mood as the audience
  • A final photo with multiple hooks about her personality

"Tired of not having friends?"->1.8M views

A format like this could help Thirdspace and drive more downloads if they move past generic app-promo posts.
