A Chinese live wallpaper app is slowly building global reach with one of the most visual use cases on the App Store.

SSME - 8K Live Wallpaper, released in 2022, lets users customize their phones with animated high-resolution wallpapers.

It first gained traction in Asia, reaching #70 in Entertainment in Taiwan and #46 in Vietnam. Then last month it spiked to 40K downloads and broke into the Top 100 across markets in South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Its whole distribution play is built around volume.

SSME runs 18 TikTok accounts with random usernames, all posting faceless wallpaper content. Since 2022, those accounts have uploaded more than 9,000 videos total.

The winning format is simple: live wallpaper tutorials.

Some of the biggest hits are in Chinese. One example reached 16.4M views and 75K saves in April 2025.

Others use English and still perform at a massive level. One tutorial reached 13.5M views and 29K saves in July 2025.

Some of the reach appears partially boosted, but the broader pattern is still clear.

The most viral videos all follow the same logic: open with a wallpaper that looks visually strange, hypnotic, or illusion-like, then show people how to get it on their own phone.

It is faceless, easy to repeat, and almost language-independent. The team can run the same strategy across different accounts and different languages because the visual effect carries the content first.

That seems to be how SSME is reaching an international audience: high-volume posting, highly visual hooks, and just enough language variation to make the content travel across markets.
