How One TikTok Video Pushed a Social App Into the U.S. Top 20 Overnight

UpScrolled is a social media platform built by Palestinians.

It launched in June 2025 and stayed quiet at first.

Then one video pushed it all the way to number 19 in the U.S.

Guy Christensen, a pro-Palestinian TikToker with 3.4M followers, posted a video calling UpScrolled an alternative to TikTok that is not owned by "billionaires with biased interests."

The video was uploaded in January 22, 2026 and hit 313K views.

A few hours later, he uploaded a second video with a clearer tactic: spread the app through TikTok comment sections across the U.S. feed.

In the same videos, he claims that U.S TikTok is now controlled by Larry Ellison and that this will lead to increased censorship of pro-Palestinian speech.

He also says UpScrolled was built by Palestinians connected to the Palestinian liberation movement.

There’s an interesting mechanic here:

Creator-led distribution + urgency framing + a simple, repeatable action (comments) that scales.
