How We Generated This List
To find these questions, we first sorted through a list of over 4 billion search terms using the Semrush Keyword Magic Tool.
Specifically, we searched for keywords containing words like "where" and "how". Our figures are for global searches.
To refine the list, we used the "Questions" filter in Semrush.
We then manually curated the list to remove questions with the same search intent.
For example, the keywords "How old is Donald Trump" and "How old is Trump" are variations of the same keyword. In each case where the intent is the same, the keywords with lower volume were removed.
Finally, we looked up the search volume for each term using Semrush. Questions are ranked based on which terms generate the most monthly searches in Google.

Here's a quick breakdown of the types of questions that people ask Google most often (based on the US top 100 questions list above):

From this breakdown, "How" is the most common starting word for the questions, making up 51% of the list.
This list includes lots of fairly mainstream questions that don't tend to change from year to year (for example, people have been searching for "How many days until Christmas" for years). However, we wanted to pull out a few questions that are have shown growth recently.

Description: Recent advancements in AI, particularly in generative AI, have created a public buzz around the topic. Tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity have given anybody with an internet connection direct access to AI today. In fact, the global AI market grew from $50 billion in 2023 to $184 billion in 2024.
Interest in AI continues to grow as more models launch. DeepSeek disrupted markets in early 2025, Semrush has launched its comprehensive AI Visibility toolkit, and 83% of companies now claim that AI is one of their #1 priorities.

Description: As a search term, this one really took off in November 2025, signaling that it could have something to do with keeping track of time over the busy holiday season.
3. What does 6 7 mean
5-year search growth: 1,300%

Monthly US Search Volume: 368,000
Description: During the fall of 2025, coinciding with back-to-school, it was nearly impossible to be near a school-aged student without hearing someone say "6 7." Parents and teachers can rejoice because it appears that this trend didn't make it back from winter break, having peaked in September.
4. How to lower cholesterol
5-year search growth: 525%
Search growth status: Exploding
Monthly Search Volume Globally: 532,400
Monthly US Search Volume: 201,000
Description: As with the "steps in a mile" query, searches for "how to lower cholesterol" tie into a wider increase in awareness of health and fitness needs. Around 1 in 10 US adults have high cholesterol, a condition which significantly increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
A 2023 study found that as many as 40% of Americans with high cholesterol were not aware they had it. But search trends suggest that may be changing, with more people taking the initiative to find ways to lower their cholesterol (generally through diet and exercise).
5. How to say hi in Spanish
5-year search growth: -26%
Search growth status: Peaked
Monthly Search Volume Globally: 155,500
Monthly US Search Volume: 135,000
Description: Spanish is spoken by over 460 million people natively, making it the second-most spoken language globally. Since 1980, there has been a 233% increase in Spanish speakers in the US. Because Spanish is the fastest-growing language in the US, it’s common for people to learn popular phrases like “Hi” on Google.
And while this specific search may have peaked (albeit still with 135,000 US searches per month), the presence of some Spanish phrases on the US top searched list tells its own story. Queries related to Real Madrid and Barcelona reflect the popularity of soccer among Hispanics; last year's Champions League final drew 9.5 million US viewers, 40% of whom were Hispanic.
